Intensive General English

Description

The Intensive Program is our most popular program for its cohesive curriculum focusing on all key English skills. Students who plan to take our Pathway Program must take Intensive General English as a prerequisite. Students can choose two classes from the primary class options, Reading & Writing, Listening & Speaking, and IELTS Preparation. CLLC’s English Conversation class is also included and gives students the opportunity to focus on additional language skills that are different from their primary classes. This is a comprehensive program that gives students the skills they need to be prepared for college or university or a well rounded Canadian language experience. CLLC’s General English (GE) program consists of six levels, ranging from Introductory English to Advanced English. The GE program develops key competencies in at least five core English language learning areas: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking, with an emphasis on academic writing. CLLCs rigorous curriculum is founded on a number of external EAL criteria such as the Canadian Language Benchmarks, TOEFL, and IELTS. The Advanced level students typically achieve a TOEFL score of 70-75 and IELTS score of 6.0-6.5, although students have also achieved TOEFL scores as high as 90.
